CombiLib

CombiLib is a network of combined libraries in the Nordic and Baltic countries.
The network was formed at a meeting at The Combined Library (Sambiblioteket) at Härnösand, Sweden in November 2005. The network has since met in November 2006 in Visby, Sweden, in Drammen, Norway, 2007, in Valmieria, Latvia 2008, in Mariehamn, Åland 2009, Valmiera 2010 and in Härnösand 2011.
The network consists of libraries who are working or planning on working in close cooperation with one another in the form of a combined or joint use library.
The parts of a combined library within the network can be a regional library, a municipal library and a university library working together preferably in the same library building or a university library and a public library in coalition.

Working in this kind of framework is still a rare experience that isn't shared with the library community in general. The network was formed to promote exchange of knowledge, ideas and methods.

The network will focus on the following key objects in the near future:
  • Research on combined libraries
  • Organization and management
  • Staff competence development
